Trip to iDA
Sunday, 15 July 2012 | 04:26

On 14/7/2012, we went to iDA - iExperience.

After the site visit, here's my reflections for the visit.

1. Which features/facilities are more interesting to you? why?
The 'Next Gen Classroom' is more interesting to me, teaching and learning take on new dimensions where everyone can tap from a wide range of resources, share knowledge and collaborate any time, anywhere.

The classroom is very cool and convenient for the students as well as the teachers, with these technologies, the white board and markers are no longer needed.

This is the board where the teacher can take the attendance
of the class and the students are able to see it on their own screen too.

This is where the teacher share some information (questions)
and the students are able to draw/write without the need of getting up their own seats.

This is the thing where students can gather around and do things together like projects.
They allow us to play games, draw something together with our friends, it operates like windows7.

(it is touch-screen).

My classmates drawing happily

The guy showed us an example of the games, the fishes will follow the finger.

Question:
Will this kind of thing only operate on this table-like thing?
No, as long as you have the programme installed to some 'touch screen' thingy, it will be able to work.

The site visit is more meaningful than what we normally have in school, as we can look and touch on the things we looked. And by touching it, we will understand the thing that are explained better.

Briefly describe ONE ethical issue covered in EIR lecture notes 11&12
Security issues, talking about it, hackers naturally comes into our mind. Besides, there's certain things that will make it even difficult to have a total security. These things are: Connectivity, Extensibility and Complexity.

However, how can we prevent these things from happening?
At iExperience, the guide explain to us about the 'Next Gen NBN' as well as the 'Home Networking'.

Next Gen NBN, "Connecting people to innovative services", the new nationwide ultra high speed optical fibre network, brings new possibilities to the way you live, work, learn and interact.

Home Networking "Unleashing possibilities in your home", New home networking options like wireless, powerline and structured cabling will enable you to access Next Gen services at every corner of your house.

These two things allow us to have the connectivity assured as it will enable us to access Next Gen services at every corner of our house. Besides, the iDA also show us what are the difference between a normal broadband user and the optical fibre network user.

This is when the guide show us the 2 different network connection while downloading the video.
At the left is the optical fibre network while at the right, is the normal broadband network. as we can see from the bar below, the optical fibre network downloads the video faster than the normal one.

While downloading the video, the broadband network video pauses for a few moments often and while the optical fibre network's download just continued without any pauses.

This is when the guide is explaining to us how the fibre network operates and operates with what.

These connection problem can be solved when everyone change it's broadband network to the optical fibre network as the speed is higher than the normal broadband network.

Pictures of the site visit:

we started the guide by a short video.
This is the thing that we can order food by using the net just by touching the sensor thingy,
it is similar to the QR code. We can even use our smartphones to control the details.
we can take photos and edit it ourselves.

Lastly, our group photo,

END.
